Review your Listen2Baby Fitness Check results

This section provides support to people leading and coordinating implementation of the Listen2Baby Toolkit in your setting.

By now you should:

  1. Be familiar with the Listen2Baby Toolkitunderstand its purpose, watched the video ‘Why is IA important?’ and spoken to your senior leadership about Listen2Baby.
  2. Have completed the Listen2Baby Fitness Check for your setting.
Step 1: Prepare for the Review of your Fitness Check report

Who should be involved - The multidisciplinary Listen2Baby Implementation team

Ideally, the team might include - HOM/DOM, Fetal Monitoring Lead Obstetrician; Clinical director; Clinical Lead for Midwifery Led Care; Fetal Monitoring Lead Midwife.

Step 2: Meeting to review Fitness Check report with Implementation Team

Meeting output

We recommend that the main output of the first meeting with the Listen2Baby implementation team is agreement to collate some baseline information on IA in your unit. This information will help inform discussion and finalise decisions about prioritising recommendations from the Checklist.

Baseline information about IA

  • the number of women arriving at your unit;
  • the number eligible for IA;
  • the number of women who start labour with IA monitoring

Refer to Data about IA, and How to conduct a prospective audit (printable PDF or Excel sheet)

Additional information to collect

  • What information is currently provided to women about monitoring options? By whom, when and in what format?
  • What percent of births and second stage are attended by a second midwife

Prioritising recommendations isn’t about doing everything at once—it’s about doing what matters most in your particular setting, safely and well.

Small changes can make a significant difference in outcomes and the confidence of staff practicing IA.
