Launch Listen2Baby

Now that you have your Listen2Baby Implementation Team in place, you have completed the Listen2Baby Fitness Check, and reviewed and prioritised your results, you should have an agreed sense within your team of what your unit is doing well and what could be done better to improve IA practice. You are now ready to formally launch Listen2Baby in your unit!

Here are some suggestions to help plan your launch:

Be clear about the purpose of Listen2Baby

To strengthen the quality and safety of IA practice by:

  • Engaging leadership
  • Training and supporting maternity teams to develop their IA skills and raise the profile of IA
  • Clarifying who should be offered IA
  • Talking with women about monitoring options during labour
  • Strengthening documentation of IA and routine data collection about IA
  • Providing choice of equipment
  • Ensuring sufficient staffing to support IA according to guidance

Key messages for staff about the benefits of Listen2Baby

  • Listen2Baby supports clear, consistent practice, not extra work, and is aligned with national guidance including NICE, SBLCBv3.2
  • High-quality IA is safe and recommended for women at low risk of complications
  • Listen2Baby supports maternity staff to build and maintain IA skills, and develop expertise and confidence in IA practice
  • This isn’t about getting it perfect—it’s about improving together. Use the new tools, share your thoughts, and help us make IA safe, simple, and strong.

Look out for:

  • Mentors and IA champions on shift
  • Opportunities for feedback and discussion of IA in monitoring meetings and handovers
